I am a lover of all things old. Rusty things, vintage things, broken old things, found things, thrift store buys, anything I remember from my childhood, and things I saw at my Gran's house when I was little. I love using them in old ways as they were intended or sometimes new altered and mosaic ways, as long as they are not thrown away. I am a country living and loving woman. I love Jesus, my husband, my kids, my grandkids, my family, my dogs, my cats and my chickens, ducks, and rabbit. Gardening is my summer love and long summer days in the yard under the shade tree with my sisters and the breeze blowing. Ahhhh. Life is good.

Todays Thoughts of Gran

I was watching the news today and I thought about how people keep talking about how bad things are getting. For some reason I thought of my Gran and her life. She was born in 1896. Her father was an alcoholic and was beaten to death when she was 8 years old. Then her mother remarried and she was sent to live with other members of her family's family. Not her blood relatives but her blood relatives family by marriage. From that time at age 9 on, she stood on a step stool (until she was tall enough) and she cooked 3 meals a day for a big family. She married at 16 and had 5 children that she raised plus 3 grandchildren she helped raise. We lived right next door to my Gran when I was growing up and I learned so much from her. She never complained about her life. Gran worked everyday of her life...hard...not at a job someplace that paid her but at her homemaking. She painted her house when she was 73 years old. She loved Jesus and went to church every time the doors were opened. She said she was blessed. She didn't complain and she was happy with her family and what she had.....I think we could all learn a lesson. I know I sure learned alot of lessons from her. She is a part of me. She left a legacy. Me.

I know this post is different from what I normally post. But its what I thought of today. My Gran.
